Hawaii banana production slips
Pacific Business News (Honolulu)
Hawaii banana utilization is running 3 percent below year-ago levels, the state Department of Agriculture reports.
But the latest monthly production figures do show the usual seasonal 3 percent increase from the previous month.
The state harvested an estimated 2.5 million pounds of bananas in June and plantings were done in generally good weather.
Average farm prices were 36.5 cents per pound, 3 cents below the month before but 2 cents better than the year before.
Apple banana sales are running more than a third stronger than year 2000 levels and prices for those are running 48 cents a pound.
