Fiji taro farmers ask for better air transport
Pacific Business News (Honolulu)
Business is booming, sort of, for Fijian taro farmers, but not as much as it would be if they could just get an airline to fly to Fiji to collect their products.
Tausala, a popular strain of taro that sells in Australia and New Zealand for anywhere from $1.30 to $2.70 per kilogram, is produced in large amounts by Fijian farmers and their export sales are strong right now.
Grow Fiji Export Co. says it can buy more but due to limited air freight connections it will only buy tausala weighing 800 grams, the Fiji Daily Post reported.
(Taro is called dalo in Fiji.)
